Makeup removers are the most convenient choice to remove make up at the end of a busy day. But what if this wonderfully simple choice could actually be damaging your skin (and not to mention the environment)? Here’s why you should consider switching your chemical-based make up remover for a more organic one.
What Do Makeup Removers Contain?
No matter what the packaging says (gentle on skin), makeup removers contain surfactants (a chemical that is extremely damaging to your skin and environment), emulsifiers and solubalizers. All of these are extremely harmful for your skin. What’s more, these chemicals also leave a residue on your skin and can dry it out, doing more damage than good.
Apart from that, makeup removers that are marketed as organic or natural contain excessive amounts of formaldehyde (used as a preservatives) which is a known carcinogen.
Make The Switch
No, we aren’t going to ask you to pull out all your pots and pans and start cooking up a batch of herbs to make that makeup remover at home. Instead, all you need to do is warm some milk and use it as an effective and safe option.
Heat the milk, such that it is warm (which is more soothing for the skin), dip a cotton ball and apply it on your face, wiping away the makeup as you go. Once all your makeup is removed, wash your face with your regular face wash and pat dry.
